The Laker Baseball team claimed the 4th Region Championship last night.
The Lakers defeated the Warren East Raiders 12-3 in last night’s region championship to claim the program’s second region championship in the last 3 seasons.
After falling down 3-1 heading into the bottom of the 3rd inning, the Lakers scored 12 unanswered runs against the Raiders, as the defense held strong to keep the Raiders off the scoreboard the rest of the game.
The Lakers were led by a strong performance from senior Trace Stringer, who was named the tournament MVP, as Stringer went 7 innings on the mound, giving up 3 runs on 7 hits and striking out 4.
At the plate, Stringer was 2-3 with an RBI and a team-high 3 runs scored.
The Lakers had contributions up and down the lineup, as Adam Walters, Mayes Gosser, Ayden McGowan, Owen Loy, Walker Stephens, and Tanner Stringer all finished with 2 hits, and Gosser, McGowan, and Jack Shearer each drove in 2 runs.
Gosser, Shearer, and Austin Bartrug joined Stringer on the All-Region team.
The Lakers now prepare for the Clark’s Pump-N-Shop State Tournament. The Lakers will play in Lexington on June 6 against the winner of the 8th Region Tournament.
The finals for the 8th Region Tournament are scheduled for Saturday afternoon.
