Laker Baseball shuts out district rival Metcalfe

The Laker Baseball team picked up a district win at home last night, defeating rival Metcalfe County by a score of 10-0 in 5 innings.

The Lakers jumped out to an early 4-0 lead in the opening frame, then added 4 more runs in the third and a pair of runs in the fifth inning to pick up the victory.

Mayes Gosser got the start on the mound for Russell County, his first pitching appearance of the season. Gosser pitched four innings, giving up just one hit while striking out 9 of 17 batters. Lincoln Helm entered in the 5th inning to close out the game, picking up three quick outs including a strikeout.

At the plate, Ayden McGowan finished with a pair of hits and drove in two runs. Jack Shearer also drove in a pair of runs for the Lakers.

The JV team also picked up a victory over Metcalfe County by a score of 12-2.

The Lakers are scheduled to go on the road tonight for another district matchup, as the Lakers hit the road for a matchup with Clinton County. First pitch is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
