Lady Laker Softball opens season with win; hosts Campbellsville tonight

The Russell County Lady Laker Softball team opened its season with a win on the road at Somerset last night.

The Lady Lakers defeated Somerset 6-3 to pick up their first win of the season under new head coach Joey Bell.

Junior Jaylee Roy paced the offense for the Lady Lakers, finishing with three hits and an RBI on the night, including a triple.

Avery Hart, Mallie McQueary, and Brylie Hardwick each drove in a run as well, with Hardwick hitting a homerun in the season opener.

Hardwick pitched 7 innings, and gave up five hits and three runs (none earned), walked two and struck out 8.

The Lady Lakers will be at home tonight, hosting Campbellsville in the home opener.

First pitch is scheduled for 5 p.m.
