Ford asks community to reach out to legislators

Superintendent Michael Ford opened Monday night’s school board meeting asking the public to reach out to state legislators regarding the state’s funding for public education, noting that the school system has a great amount of support in the community.

Here is Ford talking to the audience at Monday night’s meeting.

Ford said the school system serves as a connection point in the community and is also a significant economic driver locally.

He also noted that state law dictates school districts have multiple sets of funds that can only be used for certain purposes, responding to questions he received about whether funds for construction projects can be used for things like teacher raises.

Ford said construction funds are a different pot of money that cannot be used for those type of expenses.

The legislative session is set to end next week.
