Russell County man indicted by federal grand jury for illegal possession of firearm

A federal grand jury indicted a Russell County man on a charge of illegally possessing a firearm.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Western District of Kentucky announced a federal indictment against 29-year-old Damien N. Wilson of Russell Springs, charging him with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

The indictment states that Wilson was found to be in possession of a 9 mm semi-automatic pistol last November. The indictment noted that Wilson has four felony convictions since March 2018 in Russell, Adair, and Casey counties, making the possession of the firearm illegal.

Wilson was arraigned last week before a U.S. Magistrate Judge in federal court. He remains in federal custody, pending trial.

If convicted, Wilson faces a maximum sentence of 15 years in prison. A federal district court judge will determine any sentence after considering the sentencing guidelines and other factors.
