Liberty woman arrested after driving stolen vehicle from Adair County, fighting with police

A Liberty woman was arrested last week after she reportedly stole a vehicle from a business in Columbia and fought with Casey County deputies.

According to reports, 39-year-old Sherri Hayes was arrested and faces charges of receiving stolen property $10,000 or more, operating a motor vehicle under the influence of a controlled substance, fleeing or evading police, disorderly conduct, and reckless driving.

Reports are that deputies administered a traffic stop on the vehicle Hayes was driving near the courthouse square in Liberty, and after questioning, Hayes admitted that she didn’t know whose vehicle she was driving and she had used methamphetamine and marijuana.

Deputies learned the vehicle was reported stolen from a business in Columbia.

Deputies transported Hayes to the hospital, where she reportedly tried to escape before being pepper sprayed and apprehended.

Hayes was lodged in the Casey County Jail.
