Fire Department investigating early morning fire at Save A Lot, DQ dumpster

Early morning fires at Save A Lot grocery store and a dumpster by Dairy Queen are under investigation, according to Russell Springs Fire Chief Bobby Johnson.

According to Johnson, the Russell Springs Volunteer Fire Department was called out sometime around 4 this morning to a fire at Save A Lot grocery store off East Highway 80 along with a fire at a dumpster next to Dairy Queen across the road.

A total of 14 firefighters were on scene for nearly three hours battling the fires.

Johnson told WJRS News the fire at the dumpster caused minimal damage, but Save A Lot sustained a significant amount of damage at the main entrance to the store.

Johnson told WJRS News the fires are under investigation and while he couldn’t share a lot of details, he said the department is looking into the possibility that the fires were set by somebody.

The Russell Springs Police Department also assisted at the scene.

We’ll bring you more details as they are made available.
