Campbellsville University student charged with murder in death of fellow student

A Campbellsville University student was arrested and charged with murder in the death of another student at Campbellsville University.

Officers with the Campbellsville Police Department arrested 21-year-old Charles “Zeke” Escalera Saturday evening and charged him with murder in the death of 18-year-old Josiah Kilman.

A death investigation was launched at the university Saturday morning after Kilman was found unresponsive in his dorm room. According to Taylor County Coroner Daniel Cook, Kilman’s cause of death was manual strangulation, although his body was taken to the state medical examiner’s office for an autopsy.

Escalera was located and apprehended that evening after someone reported a man hiding in a barn near the Taylor County – Green County line.

Kilman was from Montana and was a freshman at Campbellsville University. Escalera was a third-year student at CU from Moore, Oklahoma. Both Kilman and Escalera were on the wrestling team at the university.

Escalera was lodged in the Taylor County Detention Center.
