Crews working on area roads, Rescue Squad assisting with transports as warming centers open

Winter weather continues to bear down on Russell County, as snowfall overnight and throughout the day has made travel more difficult.

WJRS News spoke with Amber Hale, spokesperson for the District 8 Transportation Cabinet about road conditions and how state road crews are handling the weather.

WJRS News also spoke to Chris Money with the Russell County Rescue Squad about how the local volunteer group is helping out the community during this time.

Several warming centers are opening as dangerously cold temperatures have arrived in the area.

The Rock at The Church at the Springs, located at 206 Jamestown Street in Russell Springs, will be open as a warming center for anyone in need.

According to Russell County Emergency Management, fire stations in Russell Springs, Jamestown, and Eli will be opened if needed as warming centers as well as South Russell Station #2, the Russell County Rescue Squad, and Russell County Courthouse.
