Russell County sees slight increase in unemployment

New data from the Kentucky Center for Statistics shows Russell County saw an increase in unemployment last month to close out 2023.

Russell County’s unemployment rate was 5 percent last month, which was up just slightly from December 2022 when it was 4.8 percent.

Russell County wasn’t the only county to see an increase in unemployment last month. 115 of Kentucky’s 120 counties saw increases, including every county in the Lake Cumberland District.

Russell County’s increase was among the lowest in the 10-county district, with the highest being in McCreary County with a near 1-percent increase.

McCreary County had the highest unemployment rate in the district at 5.4 percent, with Russell County tied for second with Wayne County at 5 percent.

Cumberland County had the lowest at 3.2 percent.
