Former Somerset Police Captain pleads guilty to theft, misconduct charges

A former Somerset Police Captain entered a guilty plea last week on 22 charges, which include theft and misconduct.

According to the Commonwealth Journal in Somerset, former Somerset Police Captain Michael Correll pleaded guilty to a list of charges which include third-degree burglary, tampering with physical evidence, abuse of public trust, theft by unlawful taking, trafficking in a controlled substance, receiving stolen property, official misconduct and unlawful access to a computer.

Correll reportedly committed these crimes between November 2022, and January 2023. Correll reportedly kept keycards and keys after his retirement on November 1, 2022 and used those to gain access to a computer.

He reportedly also stole methamphetamine from a police evidence room and controlled substances from a MedReturn Box, which is used for people to drop off unwanted or unneeded medications.

He is expected to appear for final sentencing at the end of February.
