Albany Mayor Resigns; No Action Taken on City’s Water Problems

The City of Albany has a new Mayor.   Before last night’s city council meeting, Albany Mayor Steve Lawson, who has been Mayor for the past year, announced his resignation, citing health reasons.   The council unanimously selected council member James Bray to serve as Mayor pending a November election.

The Mayor’s resignation follows several weeks of concern expressed by Albany residents and business owners over what they describe as “major problems” with the City’s water.   The City has solicited proposals from three engineering firms to study the city’s water issues, but at a meeting last month, several council members questioned the process used to evaluate the engineering firms and no firm has yet been hired by the City.     No action was taken last night on the matter.
