Today is last day to pay property taxes in-person to avoid penalty

Today is the last day Russell County taxpayers can pay their property taxes in-person at the sheriff’s office to avoid paying a penalty fee.

Any property tax bills not paid by the end of the year will incur a 5 percent penalty.

The Russell County Courthouse will be closed tomorrow until January 2.

Anybody mailing their tax payments must have it postmarked by Dec. 31 to avoid incurring the 5 percent fee.
