Local gas prices cheaper than a year ago; lower than some neighboring counties

The price of a gallon of gasoline in Russell County is hovering around the $2.89 mark for most stations in the county, which is lower than the price around this time last year.

According to AAA, gas prices in the area were at about $3.09 this time last year, 20 cents higher per gallon than this year.

Looking at neighboring counties, the average price of gas in Clinton and Cumberland counties is over $3 per gallon, and just under $3 in Wayne County and Pulaski County at about $2.98 according to AAA.

Russell County is on par with neighboring counties Adair and Casey, with prices at the pump a couple cents cheaper.
