Lakers win big, Lady Lakers fall in close one to Metcalfe County

The Russell County Lakers and Lady Lakers played in the first district doubleheader of the season last night at Metcalfe County.

The Lakers came away with a big victory, while the Lady Lakers fell in a close one.

In the first game, the Lady Lakers fell 57-56 in a narrow loss to the Lady Hornets.

Four Lady Lakers scored in double figures, with Rachel Bolin leading the way with 18 points followed by Aysha Sutton with 14, Aniyah Coffey with 12 and Karley Luttrell with 10 points.

Addy Abrell added two points to round out the scoring for the Lady Lakers and Coffey hit double-digits in the rebounding column with 12 on the night.

In the nightcap, the Lakers started strong leading by 12 at the end of the first quarter and never looking back en route to an 82-55 win.

The Lakers and Lady Lakers will play in a district doubleheader at home on Friday. The first game will be at 6 p.m. and we will have live coverage on Laker Country 104.9 beginning about 15 minutes prior to tip-off.
