The deadline for county taxpayers to avoid paying a penalty on their annual property taxes is getting closer.
Any property tax bills not paid by the end of the year will incur a 5 percent penalty.
Property tax bills are paid at the Russell County Sheriff’s Office inside the Russell County Courthouse.
Sheriff Derek Polston reminds taxpayers the sheriff’s office will be closed Monday and Tuesday next week, and will also be closed Dec. 29 thru Jan. 1.
Anybody mailing their tax payments must have it postmarked by Dec. 31.
