Beshear proposes budget plan that would provide 11 percent raise for school employees

Last night, Governor Andy Beshear released his budget proposal ahead of the 2024 legislative session, which includes a significant pay raise for public school employees.

Beshear’s budget proposal provides $1.1 billion over two years to fund an 11% raise to all public school employees – including teachers, bus drivers, cafeteria workers and janitors.

The increase would move Kentucky up to 25th in the country in the rankings for average teacher pay. Kentucky currently sits at 40th.

The governor’s plan also includes funding universal pre-K, fully funding teacher pensions, and student transportation.

The bills will be filed and considered by lawmakers when the General Assembly convenes for the 2024 Regular Session, which begins Jan. 2.
