Columbia man arrested after crashing into building on public square, nearly hitting pedestrians

A Columbia man was arrested over the weekend after he reportedly hit the Russell Building on the Columbia Public Square and nearly struck two pedestrians.

According to reports, 38-year-old Justin Coomer was arrested and charged with driving under the influence – second offense, criminal mischief, and two counts of wanton endangerment.

Columbia Police say Coomer was operating his vehicle near the public square and nearly struck a woman and her son who were walking on the sidewalk before crashing his car into the Russell Building near Jamestown Street.

Coomer was arrested and lodged in the Russell County Detention Center.
