Oaklie Douglas, of Russell Springs, passed away on Saturday, September 30, 2023, at Lexington VA Health Care Center. He was 82 years of age.
Born on December 13, 1940, in Yosemite, he was a son of the late Roy and Effie Richardson Douglas. Oaklie was a proud US Army veteran and attended The Church of our Lord Jesus Christ in Burkesville. Oaklie was a golf course groundskeeper and a retired electrician and plumber. He loved working puzzles and woodworking.
Oaklie is survived by his son, Johnnie Douglas of Liberty; his stepson, Junior (Virginia) Pennington of Columbia; his brothers, Bobby Douglas, and Russell Douglas, both of Liberty; his sister, Mary Lou Pittman of Liberty; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Oaklie was preceded in death by his wife, Judy Chumbley Douglas, who passed away on April 10, 2016; his brother, Floyd (and Hazel) Douglas; and his brother-in-law, Hack Pittman.
Funeral services are 12:00 P.M. C.S.T. Thursday, October 5, 2023, at Bernard Funeral Home, with Brother Troy McWhorter officiating. Burial will follow the service in Mill Springs National Cemetery, in Nancy, with full military honors performed by the Russell County Honor Guard.
Visitation will be held from 5:00-8:00 P.M. C.S.T. Wednesday, October 4, 2023, at Bernard Funeral Home, and will continue Thursday morning, from 7:30 A.M. C.S.T. until time of services.
Pallbearers will be Junior Pennington, Cody McGowan, Gavin Partin, Vince Partin, Daniel Troxell, and Bruce Johnson.
