Nearly 27 percent of Russell Countians report being diagnosed with depression

A new report shows that more than a quarter of Russell County residents have been diagnosed by a medical provider with depression.

The data shows that an estimated 27 percent of Russell Countians have been diagnosed with a depressive disorder.

The state of Kentucky had the second-highest rate in the country, only behind West Virginia, and 39 of the top 40 counties are in Appalachia as defined by the Appalachian Regional Commission.

Neighboring Casey County had the 4th-highest rate in the state at about 29 percent.
