Federal court rules in favor of Casey County schools over breastfeeding lawsuit

A federal court has ruled in favor of the Casey County School District in a lawsuit where a former teacher alleged that the school district didn’t accommodate her need to pump breast milk for her baby and ultimately fired her.

The lawsuit was filed in 2021 by Jessica Childers, a former special education teacher at Jones Park Elementary in Casey County. Childers alleged in the lawsuit she asked school officials several times to provide her with enough time and a place to express milk at school, but they did not.

Judge Greg Stivers however ruled in favor of the school district and dismissed the lawsuit in a 19-page opinion.
