Russell County sees small increase in unemployment

New data from the Kentucky Center for Statistics shows Russell County saw a small increase in unemployment last month.

According to the report, Russell County had an unemployment rate of 5.6 percent last month, compared to 5.5 percent in June 2022.

Russell County wasn’t the only county to see an increase. According to the report, unemployment rates rose in 53 of Kentucky’s 120 counties last month.

Among other counties in the Lake Cumberland District, Adair, Casey, Clinton, Cumberland, McCreary, and Wayne counties also had increases.

Russell County’s unemployment rate was around the middle of the pack for the Lake Cumberland District, with McCreary, Wayne, Adair and Clinton counties all posting higher unemployment rates.

Average unemployment in the district was at 5.1 percent.
