Jamestown Council holds first reading of proposed rate increase

The Jamestown City Council held its first reading of an ordinance that would increase water and sewer rates.

The proposed ordinance, which still requires a second reading and vote to pass, includes a 31.5 percent increase on water and a 50.67 percent increase on sewer.

Mayor Regena Hinton told WJRS News any rate increase is difficult, but with a sharp rise in expenses, the city needs to increase its water and sewer rates.

Hinton also spoke to WJRS News about the downtown market the city has recently started and encouraged people to come by this Saturday.
