Examining arrest rates in Russell, surrounding counties

Continuing our look at data from the annual Crime in Kentucky report, today we take a look at how the arrest rate in Russell County compares to other neighboring counties.

To adjust for population differences among counties, we adjusted the numbers to a per 100,000 standard using 2022 population estimates from the U.S. Census Bureau.

Last year, according to the data, Russell County reported about 9,885 arrests per 100,000 population.

That ranks near the middle when looking at surrounding counties.

Cumberland County leads the area at 19,391 arrests per 100,000 followed by Wayne County at 15,375.

Just behind Russell County is Pulaski County at about 9,300 arrests per 100,000 and Adair County at about 8,400.

On the lower end in neighboring counties, Casey County reported 7,336 arrests per 100,000 and Clinton County had the lowest at a little under 5,300.
