Cumberland County woman charged after multiple overdoses at Adair County Jail

A Cumberland County woman was charged after two inmates overdosed at the Adair County Regional Jail late last week.

According to Columbia Police, 43-year-old Crystal Ashcraft was charged last Thursday with two counts of wanton endangerment first degree, possession of heroin, and promoting contraband after allegedly bringing in drugs to the jail.

Ashcraft was previously booked into the Adair Regional Jail as a Cumberland County inmate on drug charges.

The two inmates who overdosed, along with another female inmate, were transported to TJ Samson Columbia by Adair EMS for treatment and observation.

Officer Elliot Smith is the investigating officer.
