A shooting investigation is underway in neighboring Wayne County.
According to authorities, a 16-year-old female approached Wayne County Deputy Nick Bertram in the courthouse parking lot late last week and said she shot a man inside an apartment.
The shooting reportedly occurred in an upstairs apartment across the street from the Wayne County Attorney’s Office.
At the scene, first responders found 54-year-old Phillip Gerhart with a single gunshot wound to the arm and upper chest area. He was treated and transported to the Wayne County Hospital, then later airlifted to the University of Kentucky.
The juvenile was arrested and charged with assault first degree, theft of a firearm, possession of a firearm by a minor, and possession of marijuana.
The investigation is ongoing by the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office.
