Calvin Elliott Humble, of Russell Springs, passed away Saturday, June 10, 2023, at Russell County Hospital. He was 83 years of age.
Calvin was born at home in the Esto Community of Russell County, January 12, 1940, son of the late John E. and Vonnie Lee Popplewell Humble. He was raised on the family farm and learned at a young age the value of staying busy and hard work. Calvin was a United States Army veteran. He married Janet Jasper on May 8, 1965.
His hardworking upbringing would follow Calvin into adulthood. Before opening his own barber shop, which he ran for over forty years, Calvin barbered for Stanley Wells. When Hopper Drug opened in town, at the end of a full day working for Stanley, Calvin changed clothes and poured the concrete sidewalks for the drugstore from a wheelbarrow. Calvin raised his own beef and chickens; he would raise a garden and can it’s rewards. He got fresh milk from his own cows and would fish and hunt, always keeping food on the table. Calvin would start his days before the sun and end his work well into the night. His family would say he was the hardest working man they ever saw.
He is survived by his wife, Janet; his son, Ricky (and Eve) Humble; his brother, Avery D. Humble; his sister, Margaret Gosser; his granddaughter, Jessica (and Zack) Litton; his great-grandson, Elliot Harris; and many nieces and nephews.
Along with his parents, Calvin is preceded in death by his son, Clint Humble; his brothers, John Bland Humble, Billy Dean Humble and James Earl Humble; and his sisters, Eudora Cooper and Nannie Lou Brockman.
Graveside services will be held in Russell Springs City Cemetery at 9:00 a.m., Monday, June 12, 2023, with Bro. Billy Dunbar officiating.
