Cameron carries Russell County en route to GOP nomination for governor

In yesterday’s primary election, Daniel Cameron carried Russell County on the way to securing the Republican nomination for Kentucky Governor.

Cameron received 1,073 votes in Russell County, roughly 39 percent of the vote, besting Kelly Craft who finished with 764 and Ryan Quarles at 628 locally.

Cameron received about 48 percent of the vote statewide to move on to face incumbent Gov. Andy Beshear in the fall.

Beshear easily won the Democrat nomination with 91 percent statewide, including 89 percent in Russell County.

In the Secretary of State race, incumbent Michael Adams was a big winner, securing 77 percent of the vote in Russell County to earn the Republican nomination. Adams also won by a large margin statewide, securing 64 percnet of the vote.

Adams will face off against Democrat Buddy Wheatley in the general election.

Allison Ball also won big in Russell County in the race for State Auditor, pulling in 76 percent of the vote locally and about 72 percent across the state.

She will run against Democrat Kimberley Reeder in November.

In the race for state treasurer, Mark H. Metcalf won Russell County with 47 percent of the vote, defeating Andrew Cooperrider who took 38 percent and OJ Oleka who received 15 percent. Metcalf won the Republican nomination for treasurer with 51 percent of the vote statewide.

In the last Republican race for Agriculture Commissioner, Jonathan Shell won Russell County with 56 percent of the vote to Richard Heath’s 44 percent. Shell also won the Republican nomination with 56 percent of the vote statewide.

In the Democrat race for Agriculture Commissioner, Sierra J. Enlow won Russell County with 54 percent of the vote with Mikael Malone receiving 46 percent locally. Enlow won the Democrat nomination to face off against Shell in November with about 59 percent of the vote statewide.

At the end of the night, each candidate that won in Russell County also went on to win statewide.
