Local unemployment rate stays the same in March

Russell County saw no change in its unemployment rate last month compared to the year prior, according to new data from the Kentucky Center for Statistics.

The report shows Russell County’s unemployment rate last month was 5.3 percent, the same rate from March 2022.

Russell County was one of 12 counties in Kentucky that saw no change in unemployment rate, while 90 counties saw a decrease and 18 had an increase.

Wayne County and McCreary County had the highest unemployment rates in the Lake Cumberland Area at 5.5 percent.

Cumberland County had the lowest at 3.3 percent.

The unemployment rate for the 10-county Lake Cumberland Area was 4.4 percent, while the statewide rate was 3.8 percent.
