Laker Baseball picks up pair of wins in Saturday doubleheader

The Russell County Laker Baseball team picked up a pair of wins in a Saturday doubleheader at Laker Field.

The Lakers started the day with a come-from-behind win over the Bowling Green Purples. The Lakers scored three runs in the final inning with Ayden McGowan’s sacrifice fly scoring Trace Stringer from third for the walk-off win by a score of 6-5.

Owen Loy picked up the win on the mound, pitching 3 innings, giving up 4 hits and 3 runs.

Stringer drove in a pair of runs on a 7th inning triple to tie the game, while Carter Stapp and Owen Loy each drove in a run as well.

In the second game, the Lakers won in five innings over the Anderson County Bearcats by a score of 12-2.

McGowan and Loy each drove in three runs on three hits, while Stapp and Aidan Antle each drove in two.

Stringer got the win on the mound, pitching five innings and giving up just two runs on two hits and striking out 5.

The Lakers are back in action tonight, going on the road to Adair County with first pitch scheduled for 5 p.m.
