Second person passes away after sign falls on top of car

A second person has passed away from injuries sustained in an incident in which a Denny’s restaurant sign fell on a car in Elizabethtown.

Lloyd Curtis of Columbia passed away Monday morning at the hospital after the incident occurred last Thursday.

Lloyd’s wife, Lillian, passed away Thursday from injuries sustained in the incident.

Wind speeds were estimated to be 40 miles per hour or more at the time of the incident. The sign from the Denny’s restaurant that fell was estimated to weigh about 2,600 pounds.

An investigation into the incident is ongoing by the Elizabethtown Police Department as well as the City of Elizabethtown’s Planning Department.
