
The Russell County Lakers and Lady Lakers split a doubleheader with Cumberland County on Saturday.
The Lakers picked up a 53-47 win over the Panthers to move to 8-12 on the season, and 2-3 in district play.
Trace Stringer and Mayes Gosser led Russell County with 14 points each, and Maddox Shearer scored 13 for the Lakers.
Owen Loy added five points and Braydon Cerrato finished with 4 on the night.
Gosser also added a team-high 7 rebounds.
The Lady Lakers fell to the Lady Panthers by a score of 49-46.
The Lady Lakers trimmed the lead to three points and had the ball on the final possession with 4 seconds on the clock, but weren’t able to get a shot off before the clock expired.
Rachel Bolin led Russell County with 14 points and 8 rebounds. Aniyah Coffey added 8 points and Addy Abrell finished with 6. Jaterria Coffey and Maleah Preston finished with 5 points each, and Preston pulled down a team-high 10 rebounds.
