COVID cases rise slightly this week

The Kentucky Department for Public Health reported 13 new COVID cases in Russell County this week, a slight increase from last week’s total of 11. The numbers were delayed this week due to the New Year’s holiday.

Looking at other counties in the Lake Cumberland District, neighboring Pulaski County had the most with 39 cases, Taylor County had 31, Adair County recorded 23 cases, Casey County and Wayne County each reported 20 cases, Green County and McCreary County each had 11 cases, Cumberland County reported 10 cases, and Clinton County had eight cases.

The state also reported 10 individuals hospitalized in the Lake Cumberland area with COVID-19 with two of those being treated in intensive care units.

The statewide positivity rate has now increased to 12.74 percent.
