3 men arrested following thefts in Sano community

One Russell County man and two Adair County men were arrested earlier this week following a reported complaint of breaking and entering in the Sano community, according to the Adair County Sheriff’s Office.

Just before 6 a.m. Tuesday, Adair County 911 received a call from Kentucky State Police requesting the sheriff’s office respond to the complaint in the Sano community.

Following an investigation, Adair Sheriff Josh Brockman was granted a search warrant for a residence located on West Sulphur Creek Road, 12 miles east of Columbia.

Later Tuesday morning the search warrant was executed on the residence by law enforcement. Several thousand dollars worth of stolen items were recovered from the residence and other items for a different break-in several days prior were also located.

Arrested was Randy Brown, 36, of Jamestown, on an outstanding parole warrant, an outstanding warrant of arrest from Russell District Court, and an outstanding warrant from Russell Circuit Court, Chris Smothers, 39, of Columbia, for receiving stolen property over $1,000, an outstanding felony warrant for Adair Circuit Court, a probation violation warrant (no bond) from Russell Circuit Court, an outstanding warrant for failure to appear in Russell District Court, and Anthony Popplewell, 32, of Columbia, for receiving stolen property over $1,000 and an outstanding warrant in Russell District Court.

All three were lodged in the Adair County Regional Jail. The investigation continues and more charges are forthcoming.
