Laker Swim & Dive hosts Debbie Loy Memorial Invitational

The Laker Swim & Dive Swim were back in action after the winter break on Saturday, January 7th as they hosted the Debbie Loy Memorial Invitational.  The Lakers hosted 28 teams from across the Commonwealth for the annual Swim & Dive Meet which was renamed for our past coach Debbie Loy.  The Lakers were excited to get 2023 going with great competition, and they had a great meet against some strong competition.

The Laker Divers kicked off the meet on Friday night and each of our four divers, Ella Pierce, Allie Wilkerson, Olivia Robertson, & Raegann Stephens each had person best scores on the night.  Ella Pierce (Freshman) finished in 8th place as the Laker top diver in the field of 18 divers.

The Laker Swimmers kicked off their 2023 stretch before Regions on Saturday with a top 5 finish in the field of strong teams visiting.

The Laker Swimmers had a total of 32 personal best swims on the day.

Alexa Stephens was the top Lady Laker swimmer for the day scoring 31 points for the team with a 4thPlace finish in 50 Freestyle, and a 3rd Place finish in 100 Backstroke.  Blair Brumett added 25 points for the team with a 7th place finish in the 500 Freestyle and 6th Place finish in the 100 Breaststroke.

Jacob Phillips was the top swimmer for the boys with wins in 200 Freestyle, lowering his 200 Freestyle record set last year at this meet by 7 seconds.  He also won the 100 Freestyle event in a meet record time.  Ben Kislan and Ethan Hart both added 27 points to the score for the Lakers.

The Lakers will be back in action on Thursday night hosting Boyle, Marion, Rockcastle, Pulaski, Southwestern, and Somerset.  The divers will begin competition at 4:30 and swimming at 6:00.
