Today marks the start of a new legislative session in Frankfort.
The 2023 session of the Kentucky General Assembly is considered a “short” session due to the 30-day period.
Once again, Republicans have an advantage in both chambers of the legislature and the ability to override any vetoes from Democratic Governor Andy Beshear, who will give his “State of the Commonwealth” address on Wednesday evening.
Several new members will also be sworn into the General Assembly today following the November elections.
Russell County is currently represented by Rep. Josh Branscum of Russell Springs in the House of Representatives while Sen. Rick Girdler of Somerset represents Russell County in the Senate.
WJRS NEWS will follow developments in Frankfort throughout the session and bring you updates on local news.
