Letcher County man found dead after incident at stockyards

A Letcher County man was found deceased early Thursday morning following an incident at the Russell County Stockyards.

According to the Russell County Coroner’s Office, 52-year-old Gerald Raymond Johnson was pronounced deceased by Russell County Coroner Mark Coots at approximately 1:10 a.m. Thursday.

Johnson was a truck driver for JW Livestock in London and was reportedly at the stockyards loading cattle for transport to Kansas. Johnson was reportedly repositioning some of the gates in the trailer when he became pinned by a section of the gates.

Johnson was taken to the state medical examiner’s office in Frankfort for a complete examination according to the coroner’s office.

Russell Springs Police, Russell County EMS, Russell Springs Fire Department, and employees of the stockyards assisted at the scene.
