Lakers win, Lady Lakers narrowly fall in home doubleheader

The Russell County Lakers picked up a big win, while the Lady Lakers were narrowly defeated in the first doubleheader of the season for the Russell County basketball teams.

The Lakers came away with a 71-46 win.

Mayes Gosser led the way with 22 points and a team-high 15 rebounds, followed by Owen Loy with 20 and Trace Stringer with 17.

Stringer and Braydon Cerrato each added 6 rebounds.

The Lady Lakers lost a close one, falling 62-59.

Three Lady Lakers scored in double figures, with Addy Abrell leading the way with 16 points, followed by Karley Luttrell with 12 and Rachel Bolin with 10.

Bolin also led the way with 10 rebounds, followed by Maleah Preston with 6, Luttrell with 5, and Hannah Yates and Aniyah Coffey with 4 each.

The Lakers and Lady Lakers are back in action for a district doubleheader at home tomorrow, taking on Metcalfe County.
