Arrest made in Adair County armed robbery

An armed robbery suspect was apprehended in neighboring Adair County on Friday following an incident that happened earlier that day, according to law enforcement.

The Adair County Sheriff’s Office received the call of an armed robbery at the Highway 206 Food Mart shortly before 2 p.m. Friday.

A white male had entered the store wearing a white shirt, hat and glasses. The male was armed with a shotgun and pointed it at the clerk, demanding money from the cash register.

The suspect then fled in a black Dodge Dakota.

Police were able to make a positive ID of the suspect during the investigation and a warrant for Robbery 1st degree was obtained by the sheriff’s office for the suspect’s arrest.

Shortly after 5 p.m., KSP and officers with the Casey County Sheriff’s Office stopped the suspect’s vehicle near U.S. 127 and KY 501 in Casey County.

Samuel Ray Burton, 24, of Adair County, was arrested on the robbery charge and the shotgun and stolen cash were recovered from the vehicle.

The case remains under investigation.

The Adair County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Columbia Police Department, Kentucky State Police, the Casey County Sheriff’s Office, and the Russell County Sheriff’s Office.
