Wayne County Schools see second bomb threat in a week

Less than a week after a bomb threat at the high school in neighboring Wayne County, another bomb threat was investigated earlier this week at Wayne County Middle School.

According to Wayne County Sheriff Tim Catron, at approximately 10:30 a.m. Tuesday a Wayne County Sheriff Office School Resource Deputy was notified of a note containing a bomb threat found on a bathroom wall in the school.

Students were immediately removed from the building and were relocated to another school building and were no longer in any type of danger. Officers searched the building with K-9 units for any suspicious packages and nothing was found.

After several student interviews, one student admitted to writing the note and is now being housed in Monticello’s Otter Creek Academy, a female only residential treatment center for youth.

All students were then allowed to return to class.
