Tourist commission collects transient tax, accepts tourism awards

The Lake Cumberland Tourist Commission collected $17,643.28 in transient tax in September of this year, the most for the month since the commission began record-keeping in 1994.

That’s according to Tourism Executive Director Danielle Wilson, who delivered the news at the monthly meeting of the commission’s board of directors on Wednesday.

Wilson also told the board the tourist commission won the coveted Gold Award of Distinction at the recent Kentucky Travel Industry Association Annual Conference for the “Best Vacation Ever” commercial that former tourism director Janette Marson was involved with, as well as the Traverse Award, the highest award given out per budget category, out of all gold awards given.

The commission has also hired a new administrative assistant in Crystal Moore, who will assist Wilson in day-to-day activities of the tourist commission.

We’ll hear from Wilson about what’s upcoming for the commission tomorrow on local news.
