School district sees anticipated attendance dip before Thanksgiving break

As several Kentucky school districts have canceled classes this week due to illness, Russell County school attendance numbers were at 88.8 percent on Monday, according to Russell County Schools Superintendent Michael Ford.

Salem Elementary was at 81 percent, Jamestown Elementary was at 85.8 percent, Russell County Middle School was at 88.4 percent, and Russell Springs Elementary was at 89.8 percent in being below the 90 percent mark on Monday.

Russell County High School at 93.4 percent was the highest attended school in the district on Monday.

Ford said with Tuesday being the last day of school for the week before Thanksgiving break, school officials will evaluate attendance numbers again when school resumes session next week.

Historically, Ford said, the week of Thanksgiving is almost always a low attendance week due to holiday travel.
