Modern gun deer season opens statewide tomorrow, Saturday, November 12th. The 16-day season closes on Sunday, November 27th.
Russell County is in Zone 4 of the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife’s deer hunting zones. In this zone, a hunter may harvest no more than two deer and only one can be antlerless.
Antlerless deer cannot be harvested during the upcoming modern gun season and the statewide bag limit of one antlered deer still applies.
Hunters must have proper licenses, permits and hunter education certification, if required. Licenses or permits may be purchased at any time by calling 1-800-598-2401, or visiting the Kentucky Fish and Wildlife website at fw.ky.gov. Licenses are also available at hundreds of locations statewide where sporting goods are sold.
Around 300,000 people hunt deer in Kentucky each year.
