Lady Lakers struggle in season opener

The Russell County Lady Laker Basketball team struggled in its season opener last night, falling to the Somerset Lady Jumpers by a score of 59-18.

The Lady Lakers fell behind early, trailing 26-4 at the end of the first quarter and 38-14 at halftime.

Karley Luttrell led the scoring for the Lady Lakers with five points, followed by Hannah Yates with 4, Camdin Cooper with 3, and Addy Abrell, Maleah Preston, and Carigann Carpenter each scoring two points.

Preston finished with a team-high 7 rebounds.

The Lady Lakers will look to get in the winning column for the first time this season when they host Bell County Friday night for the home opener.

Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. CT.

Coverage begins at 6:45 p.m. Friday on Laker Country 104.9.
