Sheriff’s Office receives COPS grant

The Russell County Sheriff’s Office announced a grant yesterday that will provide funding to hire another deputy to the office.

Russell County Sheriff Derek Polston announced yesterday that the office received a grant for more than $106,000.

The grant comes through COPS, or Community Oriented Policing Services through the United States Department of Justice.

The Russell County Sheriff’s Office was one of 5 Kentucky law enforcement agencies to receive these grant funds, which provide funding directly to law enforcement agencies to hire and/or rehire additional career law enforcement officers in an effort to increase their community policing capacity and crime prevention efforts.
