Laker band is Grand Champion at South Laurel Cardinal Classic

The Russell County High School Mighty Laker Band won Grand Champion of the South Laurel Cardinal Classic in London over the weekend, continuing a stretch of success over the past few weeks. The band also finished with a Distinguished rating in the competition.

The accolades didn’t stop there, as the Laker band also won best over color guard, best overall visual, and best overall effect.

Russell County bested North Laurel, Harlan Independent, and Somerset, among others, in the competition. In the prelims on Saturday, the Laker band won best color guard, best percussion, and was first in Class 3A.

Other opportunities to see the Laker band in action are October 15th at the Bands of America Super Regional in St. Louis, Missouri, October 22nd in the KMEA Class AAA Regionals at Warren East High School in Bowling Green and on October 29th at the KMEA Semifinals in Boyle County. The KMEA Finals will be that same night at Eastern Kentucky University.

The band is under the direction of Curtis Ervin and Haley Harrington.
