Laker athletics with a big night on Tuesday

The Russell County Lady Laker Volleyball team had a big district road win on Tuesday night, knocking off the Lady Bulldogs of Clinton County down in Albany three sets to one to win the match. Russell County won the first two sets, 25-18 and 25-14, before falling in the third set 25-23. Then came back to win the fourth set 25-16.

With the victory, the Lady Lakers secured the number one seed in the upcoming district tournament.

The junior varsity volleyball team defeated Clinton County two sets to none, winning 21-8 and 21-13.

The Lady Laker Soccer team defeated Wayne County at home on Tuesday night by a score of 5-0. Abigail Money scored four goals for Russell County while Madison Weisbrodt scored one goal. This was one night after the Lady Lakers defeated McCreary Central at home by a score of 11-1.

The Russell County Middle School Football team defeated Adair County 48-12 on 8th grade night Tuesday at Finley Field. The B team won as well, defeating the Indians 12-0. The victory completes the middle school’s regular season, where they finished at 8-1. The Lakers will be a two seed in the conference playoffs when they begin following Fall Break.
