Russell County Pitcher/First Baseman Nathan Lawson was named the Kentucky Prep Baseball Report Player of the Year Tuesday morning.
On the mound, Lawson finished with an 11-2 record, giving up just 36 hits and 8 earned runs over 72 innings pitched. He also finished with 123 strikeouts to just 20 walks and a 0.78 earned run average.
At the plate, Lawson set a Russell County Baseball record with 13 home runs to go along with 48 RBI. Lawson finished with a .470 batting average that was the highest on the team, along with a team-high 54 hits.
Lawson beat out 10 other finalists from across the state to win the award.
Lawson will be attending Eastern Kentucky University, where he’ll continue his baseball career.
