Laker Baseball season comes to an end in state title game

The Russell County Lakers’ historic postseason run came to an end on Saturday with an 11-1 defeat at the hands of Louisville Saint Xavier.

Saint X jumped to a 5-0 lead in the third inning, a lead they would never relinquish.

The Lakers lone run came in the 4th inning off of a Nick Aaron single that scored Nathan Lawson from third after Lawson recorded a triple to start the inning.

Lawson and Trace Stringer were key for the Laker offense, each finishing with a pair of hits. Aaron, Evan Hammond, and Maxon Gosser each recorded a hit for the Lakers as well.

The Lakers finish the season as state runner-up, as well as claiming the 4th Region and 16th District crowns. The Lakers finished with 31 total victories on the season, the most in program history.

Lawson, Aaron, and Cody Luttrell were named to the all-tournament team, and Alex Reynolds received the Logan Billings Memorial Scholarship.
