Adair Sheriff’s office investigates accidental death where car fell on man

The Adair County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the accidental death of an Elkhorn man in which a car he was working on fell on top of him.

According to law enforcement, preliminary investigations determined William Thomas Brown, age 61 of Elk Horn, was at his home on Speck Ridge Road working on his 2013 Chevrolet Cruze.

Deputies said Brown used a Hydraulic Bottle Jack and a piece of wood to lift the vehicle off the ground. The ground in the area of the jack was unlevel, causing the bottle jack to be unlevel in lifting the vehicle.

Upon Brown getting under the vehicle, the weight of the vehicle shifted causing the bottle jack to lean. The vehicle then fell pinning Brown underneath it.

Brown was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Adair County Coroner Todd Akin, Adair County EMS, Knifley Volunteer Fire Department, and Campbellsville Taylor County EMS responded to the scene.
